SOUNDS STARTS (at 15 feet): "Mr. Hammami, how do you react..."

    SOUND ENDS: "...office in London."

REPORTER: "Mr. Hammami, how do you react to the shooting in Munich today and the subsequent events?"

MR. HAMMAMI: "Well, when I heard about the news in the morning I didn't like it. And I think that Zionists and Israel will try to make a big issue out of it, trying to persuade the world that here are the Palestinians, they are killers, they are murderers, they are terrorists, they don't work for their homeland, they just try to kill the people for the sake of killing. I really didn't like what has happened."

REPORTER: "Would you condemn what these terrorists have done?"

MR. HAMMAMI: "Well, according to the Palestine National Charter, which is recognised by all the Palestinian organisations, we don't believe in terrorism. We don't believe in assassination. We believe in fighting against the Israeli Army in the battle field. And, so what had happened is out of our tactics, it's out of our strategy."

REPORTER: "But, you won't condemn what's happened?"

MR. HAMMAMI: "Well, we are not responsible for that."

REPORTER: "But, the question was, would you condemn what has happened?"

MR. HAMMAMI: "I didn't like what happened, but I would condemn the assassination of a whole nation of the Palestinians and the assassination of two people in the Olympic's."

REPORTER: "So, now it seems to me that you are possibly more upset at the damage this has done from a calculations point of view to you and your cause. Am I correct?"

MR. HAMMAMI: "Yes, that's right. Especially now Israel's asking Germany to stop the Olympics. Trying to make an uproar against us, and so on. The facts should be known, anyhow, should be clarified to the whole world. These Black September people are not a recognised organisation, they are not representative of the PLO, the Palestine Liberation Organisation. They are not represented in the Palestine National Assembly. So, in legal terms they are not a recognised organisation."

REPORTER: "Are you sorry an Israeli athlete was killed today?"

MR. HAMMAMI: "I tell you personally, I feel sorry when any civilian is killed for wrong reasons. But, I am also for myself, for the Palestinians being homeless outside our homeland."

REPORTER: "So you have some sympathy for these Arab terrorists?"

MR. HAMMAMI: "I like to call it sympathy. Or, perhaps sympathy for the Palestinians, being a Palestinian myself. I have a sympathy towards them myself. And, I ask all the people to have sympathy for us."
