    THE ANNIVERSARY CEREMONIES HELD AT PEACE MEMORIAL PARK, DREW 30,000 PEOPLE. A LIST OF 125 PERSONS WHO DIED IN THE LAST YEAR OF THE EFFECTS OF THE ATOMIC BOMBING WERE PLACED INSIDE A STONE MEMORIAL ARCH. THE NEW DEATHS BROUGHT TO 60,678 THE NUMBER OF PERSONS WHO HAVE DIED AS A RESULT OF THE 1945 EXPLOSION.

    DURING THE CEREMONIES, IN A TRADITIONAL RITE TO THE DEAD, RELATIVES AND FRIENDS CAST LANTERNS, INSCRIBED WITH THE NAMES OF BOMB VICTIMS, INTO THE RIVER, WHILE OTHER MOURNERS PRAYED BY THE HIROSHIMA MEMORIAL - A BOMB-BLASTED BUILDING - AMID THE BURNING OF INCENSE.
