  • Description

The retired Argentinean Admiral who was kidnapped and held by an urban guerrilla group for two months, was released in Buenos Airs on Thursday (June 7).

Rear Admiral Francisco Aleman, a former Argentine Naval Intelligence Chief, was released by the trotskyite People's Revolutionary Army -- the group which is believed to have kidnapped the British businessman, Mr. Charles Lockwood, who was abducted from his home in the suburbs of Buenos Aires on Wednesday (June 6).

Admiral Aleman was released after newspapers published a statement he made, "admitting" charges the guerrillas have made against the military regime, which handed over power on May 25 after ruling for seven years.

The guerrillas had demanded the publication of the statement as a condition for releasing the admiral.

Admiral Aleman would answer only one question when he arrived home -- he told newsmen he had been well treated by his captors.

But he was taken to a naval hospital for a complete checkup. His wife and friends have been visiting him in hospital.
