Background: The Arab Organisation for the Boycott of Israel has singled out the United States, Rumania and Portugal for special scrutiny in regards to their relationship with Israel. Secretary General, Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Maghoub, announced this on the opening day (14 January) of the Organisation's Conference at Abu Dhabi.
The conference, which is expected to last about ten days, was inaugurated by the Abu Dhabi Minister of Trade and Economics, Sultan Ben Ahmed Moalla. Its purpose is to review economic sanctions against countries and foreign firms considered friendly to Israel.
Mr. Maghoub said their chief target was the United States which imported large quantities of Israel goods. Portugal had been singled out, he explained, because it had allowed Israel-bound U.S. arms to fly through its airspace during the October war. Mr. Maghoub stated that Rumania - the only communist country to maintain diplomatic links with Israel - was believed to export materials for the Israeli armaments industry.
