Background: The United Nations Security Council was told today (Friday) that both Syria and Israel had accepted the U.N call for a ceasefire, but news continued to come in of fighting on the Israel-Syrian Border. Late tonight the security Council held a further emergency session to seek enforcement of the cease-fire ruling, and to consider Syrian allegations that Israel was still fighting.

The Secretary General tonight heard suggestions that Israeli planes were still attacking Syrian villagers, in spite of early announcement today of a cease-fire. Reports came from Syrian about 1200 GMT of conflict between the two countries, with claims of several tanks, Israel was said to be carrying out considerable bombing of front-line positions, but to have lost two columns in advance on Al-Nasseriya and Al-Bahriyat.

Counter-claims from the Israeli forces say that despite the declared cease-fire, the Syrians had this morning continued to shell Israeli settlements just over the border --- particularly the Kibbutzin. Reports told a retaliatory action in sending troops and armour over the Border, with heavy troops movement on the road northwards to Tiderias.

The Egyptians delegates to the United Nations, Mr. Mohamed Awad El-Kony, also told the council that Cairo was bombed for one hour today and the Somalia was also raided. The U.N. were said to be considering this allegations too.
