A holiday mood the whole year round is what European men's fashion designer aiming for. This was revealed at the preview of the Tewntie??? International Men's Fashion Show which opens in Cologne on Friday (??? August).
Fashion designers throughout Europe have gathered in the West German city to exhibit their designs for spring and summer 1974. Bright and unconventional use of colour is the keynote of the exhibition -- from Austria a pink evening jacket and from Portugal an orange and blue jean suit.
One of the novelty features of the exhibition is a collection of shirts each displaying the motif of a popular basketball team.
For slightly more formal wear large checked jackets with brightly spotted bow-ties were particularly popular among designers.
The exhibition runs until August 26th.
SYNOPSIS: At the West German city of Cologne men's fashion designers from around Europe are exhibiting at the Twentieth International Men's Fashion Show.
The theme of this year's designs is colour and individuality. Fashion designers want men to wear holiday-mood clothes the whole year round -- hence the bright colours for evening wear.
Casual wear -- which is becoming more and more important in the mens fashion world -- is dominated by "shorty" jackets with bright colours and bold designs.
Most popular of all this year are the loudly checked jackets which are being worn in combination with brightly spotted and striped
Casual outfits are also receiving the "check treatment" -- this outfit comes with a matching hat
Trousers are still wide-bottomed and jacked lapels are also wide -- this outfit has a matching cravat in red.
But the old styles continue to fascinate designers. This thirties-style suit comes with suitably wide-brimmed hat and wide lapels.
