  • Description

Thirteen of the nineteen African countries who maintain special trade links with the European Economic Community have exhibition stands at the Brussels Commercial Fair this year. The Fair at the Centenary Hall is the 46th and lasts until May 13th.

The countries include Mali, Burundi, Zaire Republic, Upper Volta, Togo and Mauritania. The products on display ranged from coffee to carpets and sculpture.

Some years ago, the former colonies of France, Belgium and Italy made special trading agreements with the Community under what came to be known as the Yaounde convention. It is due to be re-negotiated at a conference starting on August let.

There have recently been moves to include 20 Commonwealth countries in future agreements. The European Commission has also suggested there should be a system of price insurance for African countries whose economies rely heavily on one export product.
