    Pope Paul welcomed moves to bring peace to South East Asia today (November 25) when he met President Suharto of Indonesia at the Vatican. President Suharto had private talks with the Pope lasting about half an hour during a two hour visit to the Vatican.

    In a formal speech of welcome, Pope Paul said the Indonesian people wanted peace not only in their own land but beyond it throughout "the tormented region of South East Asia."
    At a meeting yesterday with the Italian Prime Minister, Giulio Andreotti, President Suharto confirmed that Indonesia was ready to take part in the international control commission for overseeing an armistice in Vietnam.

    President Suharto left Rome for the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, tonight after a European tour which included France, Austria, Switzerland and Belgium.
