    MOHAMMED SALAH HANAFY, AN AMATEUR SWIMMER FROM THE UNITED ARAB REPUBLIC WAS FIRST HOME IN THE THIRTEENTH CAPRI TO NAPLES SWIMMING RACE HELD ON SUNDAY. THE EVENT WAS HELD IN A CALM SEA - AND THE SWIMMERS FOUND LITTLE DIFFICULTY IN CONTENDING WITH THE LIGHT SWELL.

    THE DISTANCE FROM CAPRI TO NAPLES IS 24 MILES (38 1/2 KMS), AND HANAFY COMPLETED IT IN NINE HOURS, 21 MINUTES AND 41 SECONDS. HE BEAT ITALY'S GIULIO TRAVAGLIO, BY ABOUT FOUR MINUTES. TRAVAGLIO WAS THE FIRST PROFESSIONAL SWIMMER TO COMPLETE THE COURSE.

    EGYPTIAN SWIMMERS HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN THIS RACE FOR THE LAST THREE YEARS. IN 1964 MOHAMMED ZYTOUN AND ABOU HEIF TIED FOR THE FIRST PLACE. ON SUNDAY, ABOU HEIF WAS THIRD.

    WHEN THE SWIMMERS REACHED NAPLES THEY WERE GREETED BY A LARGE CROWD OF PEOPLE - INCLUDING MANY YOUNGSTERS, AND THERE WERE MANY WILLING HANDS TO HELP THE EXHAUSTED MEN ASHORE.
