  • Description

In Leopoldville Oct 8, Albert Bolela - installed by Colonel Mobutu as "Commissar" of the Congolese Ministry of Information - made the following statement at a press conference in relation to a new Governmental list issued Oct 7 by Patrice Lumumba.

"General Mpolo said yesterday that Prime Minister Lumumba, dismissed by Head of State Kasavubu, has formed a new Government. He has given a list of the ministers. General Mpolo, promoted by Lumumba, had not been asked by the legal authorities of the country to present a new Government. Some people named by Mpolo, like for example Michael Bolikango and Albert Kalonji, were not even consulted by Mr. Lumumba. This so-called Government exists only in ex-Prime Minister Lumumba's imagination."
Mr. Bolela - M.A. graduate of Belgium's Louvain University - also spoke of the work of the "College of Commissars" appointed by Military leader Mobutu. He said they were to reinforce the protection of the Congo frontiers to prevent access to the country of "elements who could endanger the security of the State." They were also to fight unemployment with the help of UNO who have contributed 7 million dollars at their disposal. This would give work to 30,000 unemployed, he said.
