    ONE OF THE RICHEST AND MOST FAMOUS COLLECTIONS OF THE WORKS OF VAN DYCK WILL GO ON EXHIBITION IN THE QUEEN'S GALLERY AT BUCKINGHAM PALACE TOMORROW (FRIDAY). THE COLLECTION IS OWNED BY THE QUEEN AND IT WILL BE THE FIRST TIME IT HAS BEEN OPENED TO THE PUBLIC.

    THE COLLECTION INCLUDES MANY FAMOUS EXAMPLES OF VAN DYCK'S WORK, INCLUDING THE TRIPLE PORTRAIT OF CHARLES I AND AN EQUESTRIAN PORTRAIT OF THE SAME SUBJECT.

    THERE IS ALSO A SELECTION OF ETCHINGS BY WENCESLAUS HOLLAR, ILLUSTRATING LONDON AS IT WAS WHEN VAN DYCK LIVED THERE, AS WELL AS A GROUP OF MINIATURES PAINTED AT THE EARLY STUART COURT.

    THE MINIATURES WERE TAKEN FROM VAN DYCK'S WORK AND WERE PAINTED BY SUCH ARTISTS AS NICHOLAS HILLIARD, ISAAC AND PETER OLIVER, JOHN HOSKINS AND SAMUEL COOPER. AMONG OTHER FAMOUS WORKS ON VIEW IS A PORTRAIT OF THE DUCHESS OF RICHMOND.

    THE WORK IS BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN PAINTED BEFORE HER MARRIAGE, IN THE SUMMER OF 1637. ANOTHER PAINTING IS HENRIETTA MARIA, FOR WHICH VAN DYCK IS BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN PAID ABOUT GBP20-STERLING.

    THERE ARE 26 PICTURES BY VAN DYCK IN THE ROYAL COLLECTION. THE EXHIBITION HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE DEPUTY SURVEYOR OF THE QUEEN'S PICTURES, MR. OLIVER MILLAR.
