  • Description

Prime Minister designate Hussein Ali Bayoomi declared in Aden tonight (Friday) that he was still trying to form an interim administration despite a Federal Government announcement that he had been relieved of the task.

Mr. Bayoomi's statement was seen by political observers in Aden as a serious development in the leadership crisis, already plagued by violence and terrorism.

As Federal Minister for Information and National Guidance, Mr. Bayoomi was asked by the Federal Supreme Council to form an interim administration to guide the Federation to independence next January. He formed an eight-man administration 10 days ago without disclosing any names and sent his list to the Federal Cabinet for approval.

This had not been given by today when it was announced that he had been relieved of the task of forming an interim government.

Mr. Bayoomi told newsmen tonight that the Federal Cabinet had no right to relieve him of the mission.

In Aden's Crater Town today a soldier of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders shot dead three Arab suspects as they scrambled into a mosque within minutes of a grenade attack on British troops in a nearby street.
