  • Description

The Ghanaian head of state, General Ignatius Acheampong, said on Friday (22 April) that Ghana would welcome the sympathetic interest and support of all her friends in the implementation of a new five year plan. The General was speaking at a ceremony at which the new West German Ambassador, Herbert Well, presented his credentials.

SYNOPSIS: General Acheampong said the co-operation between Ghana, West Germany and others through Ghana's membership of the Lome Convention should be used to overcome some of the inequalities and contradictions in the present world economic order. The new ambassador said the African continent was now a focal point of world-wide interest and that the West German government was following developments in southern Africa with deep concern.

The Head of State also received the credentials of the Gabonese Ambassador, Hubert Oudias-Souma. General Acheampong said the development of mutual confidence among African countries was a useful factor for the attainment of many of their common goals. He said the creation of mutual confidence and understanding could hardly be achieved without the building of the requisite bridges between African nations.
