    A TWELVE-MAN MISSION FROM BULGARIA HAS BEEN VISITING SINGAPORE FOR TALKS AIMED AT INCREASING ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL RELATIONS BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES. ITS LEADER, MR LATCHEZAR AVRAMOV, HAD TALKS WITH PRIME MINISTER LEE KUAN YEW YESTERDAY (THURSDAY) BEFORE OPENING A NEW BULGARIAN-SPONSORED FACTORY.

    MR AVRAMOV IS BULGARIA'S DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER AND MINISTER FOR FOREIGN TRADE. HIS TALKS WITH MR LEE AT CITY HALL LASTED HALF AN HOUR.

    THEN HE WENT TO THE JURONG INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX TO OPEN A BULGARIAN-SPONSORED FACTORY. THE FACTORY ASSEMBLES AND MANUFACTURES ELECTRIC AND DIESEL TRUCKS, HOISTS AND OTHER MATERIAL-HANDLING EQUIPMENT. THE DAY BEFORE, MR AVRAMOV OPENED A JOINT VENTURE WITH A LOCAL FIRM FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF PVC CLOTH.

    THE OPENING OF THE TWO FACTORIES IS TO BE FOLLOWED NEXT WEEK BY AN EXHIBITION OF BULGARIAN MACHINERY. A SPOKESMAN SAID BULGARIA REGARDED THE SETTING UP OF THE FACTORIES AS ITS SHARE IN PROMOTING INDUSTRY IN SINGAPORE.

    BULGARIA ESTABLISHED A TRADE OFFICE THERE IN 1966, AND TWO-WAY TRADE ROSE TO 6-MILLION STERLING (14.4 MILLION DOLLARS) LAST YEAR. IN EXCHANGE FOR MACHINERY, CHEMICAL AND MEDICINAL PRODUCTS, SINGAPORE EXPORTS RUBBER, TIN, BEER AND SHOES TO BULGARIA.
