    ONE THOUSAND MEN AND ITEMS OF MILITARY EQUIPMENT WERE PUT ASHORE FROM THE UNITED STATES TROOP SHIP "GENERAL SIMON B. BUCKER" AND THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER "CARD" AT BREMERHAVEN, WEST GERMANY, OCT 13. THE SOLDIERS THEN CONTINUED THE JOURNEY TO THEIR NEW GARRISONS.

    A FURTHER 500 SOLDIERS LEFT THE SHIPS AT CHERBOURG, FRANCE, THE PREVIOUS DAY TO BE ASSIGNED TO BASES IN SOUTH-WESTERN FRANCE. THE TROOPS ARE THE FIRST OF BIG AMERICAN REINFORCEMENTS FOR WESTERN EUROPE. AMERICAN OFFICIALS SAID ARRIVALS WOULD CONTINUE N THE NEXT FEW DAYS TO BOOST THE STRENGTH OF THE SEVENTH ARMY BY 40,000 MEN.

    VERY LARGE SHIPMENTS OF AMERICAN TANKS AND OTHER HEAVY EQUIPMENT ARE BEING SENT TO EUROPE SO THAT ADDITIONAL DIVISIONS CAN REINFORCE NATO (NORTH ATLANTIC TREATY ORGANIZATION) AT SHORT NOTICE. THE BUILD-UP IS DIRECT RESULT OF THE CRISIS OVER BERLIN.
