    MILITARY POLICE IN WEST GERMANY TODAY (SUNDAY) RELEASED THREE BRITISH SOLDIER ARRESTED AFTER A BRAWL AT LAST NIGHT'S FOOTBALL MATCH BETWEEN MANCHESTER UNITED AND HANOVER. ABOUT 40 SOLDIERS WERE INVOLVED IN THE SCUFFLE WHICH FLARED UP SEVERAL TIMES DURING THE MATCH.

    MANCHESTER UNITED --BRITISH FOOTBALL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS-- RECEIVED FERVENT SUPPORT FROM THE 2,000 BRITISH SOLDIERS IN THE CROWD. THEY 'CHAIRED' STAR PLAYER DENIS LAW ROUND THE TOUCHLINE BEFORE THE GAME STARTED.

    A BRITISH RHINE ARMY SPOKESMAN SAID TODAY NO CHARGES HAD BEEN BROUGHT AGAINST THE THREE MEN. HE ADDED THAT PRESS REPORTS OF "OVER 200 SOLDIERS" BEING INVOLVED WERE EXAGGERATED.

    MANCHESTER UNITED LOST WHAT WAS DESCRIBED AS A GOOD GAME 2-NIL. IT WAS THE FIRST IN THEIR SHORT PRE-SEASON TOUR OF GERMANY.
