  • Description

The Council for Namibia, an area otherwise known as south-west Africa, has been continuing negotiations and discussions with African Governments on the issuing of travel documents. During the last week the Council has had talks in Nairobi with Kenyan Government officials.

These talks follow similar negotiations on 10th July in Zambia when an agreement was concluded recognising United Nations travel and identification documents likely to be used by Namibians resident in that country.

The Kenyan Government officials, meeting with the Council in the conference room at the Stanley hotel, have been considering a similar agreement.

The efforts of the Council for Namibia are considered an important and historic step towards ensuring wider recognition of Namibia's international status which was established in a General Assembly Resolution tabled in 1967.
