    Italian Communist Party head, Enrico Berlinguer was honoured at a rally of the Catalan Communist Party in Barcelona, on Monday (29 May).

    SYNOPSIS: Senor Santiago Carrillo Solares, the Secretary General of the Spanish Communist Party introduced Signor Berlinguer. In 1957, the Spanish and Italian communist parties signed an agreement, and this, Senor Carrillo said in his welcome, was what had kept the two parties together.

    The communist party of Spain was for freedom and democracy Senor Carillo continued. This year for the first time in over forty years the workers had been allowed to celebrate the traditional workers holiday on Monday, and there had been large rallies all over Spain.

    At a press conference given before the rally Signor Berlinguer said that foreign intelligence services may have been behind the Red Brigade kidnappers of the former Italian Premier Aldo Moro. The murder of Signor Moro was aimed at bringing about the collapse of Italian democracy, but had failed to do so, and, Signor Berlinguer had told reporters, The Italian Communist Party was preparing to investigate Signor Moro's kidnapping and death. Signor Berlinguer also said that Eurocommunism, the concept of independence of Western Communist parties from the Soviet Union, was still alive. But he added that it was not aimed against the Soviet Union.
