THE STUDENTS, NUMBERING NEARLY FIVE THOUSAND, WERE LED BY STUDENT'S ACTION FRONT (KAMI). THEY FIRST ASSEMBLED AT THE SPORTS COMPLEX NEAR THE PARLIAMENT BUILDING WHERE A DEBATE ON PRESIDENT SUKARNO'S SPEECH WHICH SAID INDONESIA WOULD NOT RECOGNISES MALAYSIA IMMEDIATELY OR RUSH BACK TO THE UNITED NATIONS, WAS IN SESSION.

AS THE DEMONSTRATORS SURGED TOWARD THE PARLIAMENT BUILDING, TROOPS AND ARMOURED CARS STOOD BY.

THE SOLDIERS CIRCLING THE PARLIAMENT BUILDING TRIED VAINLY TO F?ND OFF THE STUDENTS WITH GUN BUTTS AND RUBBER TRUNCHEONS.

BUT THE STUDENTS MANAGED TO REACH THE DOORS OF THE PARLIAMENT. THE ASSEMBLY INTERRUPTED THE DEBATE TO RECEIVE A STUDENT DEPUTATION WHICH ASKED FOR AN IMMEDIATE RETURN TO THE UNITED NATIONS AND NORMALISATION OF RELATIONS WITH MALAYSIA.
