  • Description

Scenes of severe flooding in Cleveland, Ohio, were filmed June 1 by VISNEWS - the morning after the worst rain storm the state has known. Coast guard boats led rescue efforts--and every craft available was used helping stranded citizens from first and even second story windows. In many areas houses were almost totally submerged.

Two buses were caught in high water - but the passengers escaped. Occupants in another bus had a lucky escape when the vehicle was swept by floodwaters down the road-stopped only by a telegraph pole.

A state of emergency was declared in some suburbs and National Guardsmen and police called out to evacuate families.

Four inches of rain - in less than three hours soon turned Cleveland into a state of mud and water.
