    East and West German leaders met in Bonn on Tuesday (7 November) after reaching agreement on a Normalisation Treaty between the two nations.

    East German State Secretary Egon Bahr, who flew to Bonn from Berlin on Monday night, had been given the go ahead by his Cabinet to initial the Treaty.

    In Bonn, he met the West German Chancellor, Willy Brandt and members of his Cabinet.

    The Normalisation Treaty will, when finally signed and approved, entail mutual diplomatic recognition, entry of the two German states to the United Nations and increased contacts in various fields.

    At a news conference in Bonn late on Tuesday, the chief Government spokesman, Conrad Alhers, said Bonn was pleased negotiations had been completed before the West German elections on November 19. They said the elections would be a "sort of plebiscite" on the treaty.

At a news conference in Bonn, West German spokesman Conrad Ahlers said the treaty entailed mutual democratic recognition, entry of both to the United Nations, and greater contact in various fields. Bonn was pleased negotiations were completed before the West German elections on November the 19th. The elections would be a sort of plebiscite on the treaty.
