For the past hundred years, the South Louisiana town of ville Pratte in the U.S.A. has been holding "jousting" tournaments. Galloping horsemen, dressed as medieval knights, are armed with lances. But here the similarity with the real thing ends.
Instead of drawing their lances at each other, they try to spear steel rings only two inches in diameter.
There are seven ring posts around the course and riders are judged both on the number of rings they capture and on the time it takes them to do it.
The tournament is usually held to coincide with the October cotton festival. This year's winner scored 20 pout of a possible 21 rings. He says he will be back next year trying to be the first person to get 21.
