  • Description

Kings, Princes, Presidents and Prime Ministers from all over the world will be housed side by side in a luxurious tent village in Southern Iran later this month to celebrate the 2,500th anniversary of the Persian Empire.

The week-long celebrations, scheduled to begin on October 12, will be highlighted by a troop review before the assembled guests.Contingents of Iran's army will dress for the ceremony in military uniforms representing 10 periods of Iran's history spanning from the Achamenian era to the present day.

The tent village was built by a French firm of decorators. Each of the 50 temporary homes has been fitted with a Persian carpet, specially hand-woven for the occasion. The Shah has also provided a helicopter pad for visiting Heads of State, hairdressing salons for the women guests, menus by Maxim's of Paris, and a golf course. The kitchens have been designed to Maxim's own specifications and the food will be transported from Paris by air -- except, of course, the caviar. The will be the finest Persian product, from the Caspian.

When the lavish celebrations are finished, the tent village --built of rigid plastic and which should stand up to the desert weather winds for 15 years -- will be given to the Iranian National Tourist Organisation and used as a tourist motel. The cost of the party has been kept secret, but the Iranians say tourism will recoup the cost in five years.
