Non-aligned countries meeting in Malta on September 10 brushed aside calls for condemnation of the United States and issued a statement calling for curbs on foreign war games in the Mediterranean on September 11, according to sources quoted by Reuters news agency. The Foreign Minister of the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya Ali Al-Tureiki, denounced what he called United States aggression in the Gulf of Sidra. Libya has claimed the Gulf as part Gulf lies in international waters - and continues to hold military exercises there. The Libyan Foreign Minister also attacked the US-sponsored nuclear missiles in Cisomo, Italy. Reuters news agency quoted conference sources as having said that the Libyan call to condemn the United States was rejected under pressure from Egypt and Malta. Both countries wanted the communique confined to urging a nuclear-free Mediterranean and restrictions on military of Egypt, Yugoslavia, Tunisia, Morocco, Libya and Syria, the Interior Minister of Cyprus and the Health Minister of Algeria. The Palestine Liberation Organisation(PLO) also sent a representative.
