    Right up until the moment of the space accident the overtook Apollo 13 at about 2300 hours Monday night, there was nothing to indicate the disaster ahead. A few minutes before, astronaut Fred W. Haise cheerfully wished good night to the control centre in Houston.

    Following the accident to the spacecraft, Mission Director Chris Kraft called a press conference at the NASA Manned Space Centre in Houston to explain the situation to waiting pressmen. With him was James McDivitt, Manager of the spacecraft programme.
