  • Description

A very human pre-Christmas event, symbolic of the Christmas spirit. Organized by a large department store, children members of a childrens club are invited to a film entertainment. There is no charge but each child is requested to bring a toy or garment. These are later collected and distributed by local welfare organisations to several institutions catering for needy children of the city.

It helps to inculcate in the youngsters the quality of giving thought to others less well off than themselves, such as orphans.

Following this cinema entertainment buses arrive bringing children from homes and institutions to a free morning's entertainment.

In home all over the country preparations for the Feast are under way. Here an average family have the help of an African servant in setting up and decorating the Christmas tree. While Grandma knits on placidly with, perhaps, memories of many happy Xmases behind her.

The whole town is out shopping. Ian Craig, Captain of the Australian Cricket touring team and Manager Mr Norton pay a visit to the Native Curio Market in Durban. This is a very popular rendezvous particularly with tourists, who are able to purchase curios and knic-knacs on the spot by Africans. Many kinds are available - from bandwork to assegais, skins to carvings.
