  • Description

About 50 demonstrators, born in Surinam, marched through the centre of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, yesterday to protest against the amount of financial aid given their country by the Dutch Government. The demonstrators claimed that their country was getting less financial help than many others in the world. Surinam is in a unique position. Once a Dutch colony, it now has a Government of its own, but despite urging from Holland, still refuses to accept full independence. Under a special charter Surinam retains defence and economic ties with Holland.
