Background: The famous English bard, William Shakespeare, starred in the American Television Awards May 16, his words helping to win five "Emmies". The bard's "Macbeth", scored as the programme of the year and 'outstanding dramatic achievement' and won "Emmies" (Television Awards) for Judith Anderson and Maurice Evans for best single performances of 1960-61. Raymond Burr, TV's Perry Mason, and Barbara Stanwyck, whose anthology show has since been cancelled, won as best stars in series.

Fred Astaire continued his old romance with "Emmy", winning as best variety performer and as best musical-variety programme. The pair joints the nine "Emmies" he won with his TV debut two years ago.
