  • Description

Possible effects of the Munich Olympic killings on the newly-forged diplomatic links between Egypt and West Germany came under close discussion in Cairo on Wednesday (13 September) at a special session of the Cabinet.

This followed a meeting the previous day between Egyptian Foreign Minister Zayyat and the West German Ambassador, Dr. Steltzer. The two countries resumed diplomatic relations only three months ago after a break of seven years. But on Monday (11 September) Egypt accused West Germany "of helping the United States and Israeli to turn the Munich kidnapping by guerrillas into a pretext for Israeli attacks on Syria and Lebanon."
During the meeting Dr. Steltzer is reported to have told Dr. Zayyat that his country was sager to maintain the revived relationship with Egypt.
