The campaigning in the Greek general elections came to an end Friday night. The electorate?
The campaigning in the Greek general elections came to an end Friday night. The electorate is now quiet, taking time to consider the problems of the day and the points made by the contesting parties.
At dawn the polling booths were opened up and down the country, in towns, villages and remote hamlets and more than 5 million voters went to cast their votes. There are five different political parties to choose from, including coalitions of the Left, Centre and Right-wing complexions.
During this period no alcoholic beverages are allowed to be sold in restaurants, cafes or taverns. No meetings of any kind are permitted either.
The Army and security services remained on the alert throughout the day.
