Mrs. King then held the service in the sixth game of the first set to avoid losing the set, but Miss Evert's better play was causing her problems.

The second sat followed a similar pattern, with Mrs. King winning the first game, but losing the next five. she held her service at 5-1 to save the match, but in the next game Miss Evert produced a superb forehand cross-court winner to lead 40-30, and then induced an error from Mrs. King for victory. Miss Evert, who is going for her third Wimbledon singles title, now faces third seeded Virginia Wade of Britain, in the semi-finals.
