    The eighth annual meeting of the United Nations Executive Committee of the Economic Commission for Africa opened in Addis Ababa on Monday (13 November). The 5-day meeting will examine a progress report on African economic co-operation. After reviewing its activities since the last meeting in Tunis last year, the committee will make appropriate recommendations for next year's conference of Ministers from member states.

    SYNOPSIS: The eighth annual meeting of the executive committee of the United Nations Economic commission for Africa has opened in Ethiopia. The meeting is being held in Africa Hall at Addis Ababa, and the sixteen delegates from the member states elected as chairman Nigeria's Ambassador to Ethiopia, Mr. Olu Sanu.

    The committee will discuss the significance of the enlarged European Common market on the African economy, and will also study a progress report on the efforts of African States towards economic co-operation.

    This will be the last meeting held by the committee before the second conference of ministers is held next February in Accra, and the delegates expect to make appropriate recommendations for that meeting.
