  • Description

Geologists at the spacecraft centre in Houston, Texas, are puzzled by a piece of black glass brought back from the moon by the Apollo 15 expedition last week. The glass, about 12 inches (25 centimetres) long, has been described as being similar to that found in volcanic areas on Earth where molten rock has cooled rapidly. The geologists have so far only seen the sample through its transparent container, but are looking forward to examining it when the dust has been brushed off. Altogether 171 pounds (77 Kilograms) of moon rocks were brought back by the astronauts.
