The Baikonur Cosmodrome, June 1971. In accordance with the program of exploration of outer space the rocket-booster with space-ship "Soyuz-II" are prepared for launching. At a press-conference Colonel-General Kamanin introduced the members of the crew of "Soyuz II": Commander of the Ship Lieutenant-Colonel Georgi Dobrovsky, flight-engineer Hero of the Soviet Union Pilot-Cosmonaut of the USSR Vladislav Volkov and test-engineer Viktor Patsayev. Answering that the crew of the ship "Soyuz-II" was assigned to perform the next stage of work which was begun by the flight of "Soyuz IO". Early morning of June 6th. The cosmonauts are to carry out operations of locating in space the scientific station "Salyut" which was put orbit on April 19th, of docking the two space vehicles and of entering the "Salyut" station. Ship "Soyuz-II" is launched into space. Next day the whole world received news of a new outstanding accomplishment of Soviet science and technique - the docking of space-ship "Soyuz-II" with scientific station "Salyut". The total weight of the space system exceeds 25 tons. The crew passed into the scientific station. Radio and TV communication is being upheld with the crew. Leaders of the party and government congratulated the cosmonauts upon their successful arrival on board the first-ever manned orbital scientific station and expressed their confidence that the crew would fulfil with honour the responsible and difficult assignment of their Motherland in exploration and mastering of Space.
