    The 'Celestial Christian' sect of West Africa celebrated Christmas with its annual service conducted by the founder, Pastor Samuel Oshoffa, on a beach at Cotonou, capital of Dahomey.

    The sect, which has about 20,000 followers throughout Dahomey, Toto, Nigeria, the Ivory Coast and Ghana, was founded in 1946. The ceremony is a colourful one with the worshippers singing and dancing around candles and a holy cross planted in the sand.
