  • Description

Orly Airport, Paris, was bathed in bright sunshine May 18, as President Eisenhower arrived by helicopter from the city's center to board the Boeing-707 waiting to take him to Lisbon, Portugal.

He made only a brief statement before shaking hands with M. Andre Malraux, the French Minister of Cultural Affairs, and walking quickly up the steps into the silver and orange jet-liner.

A few hours later he landed in Lisbon and lunched with Portuguese President Thomaz. Afterwards he received heads of diplomatic missions and Dr. Salazar, the Prime Minister. In the evening he was due to give a reception and dinner at the American Embassy in honor of President Thomaz.

After his 24-hour visit to Lisbon - brought forward from the scheduled May 22 because of the Summit fiasco - President Eisenhower will fly to Washington.
