    POLICE REMOVED A WREATH LAID BY A GROUP OF CZECHOSLOVAK EX-SERVICEMEN TODAY (SUNDAY) AT CZECHOSLOVAK MEMORIAL AT BROOKWOOD MILITARY CEMETERY, NEAR WORKING IN SOUTH EAST ENGLAND. THEY DID SO ONLY MINUTES BEFORE A REMEMBRANCE SERVICE, ATTENDED BY DR. ZDENEK TRHLIK, THE CZECH AMBASSADOR.

    TWENTY MEMBERS OF THE ASSOCIATION OF CZECH LEGIONARIES PUT THEIR WREATH IN THE PLACE OF HONOUR SHORTLY BEFORE THE CEREMONY BEGAN. ON THE WREATH WAS THE INSCRIPTION: "IN MEMORY OF OUR BROTHERS IN ARMS WHO FELL FOR THE FREEDOM OF THEIR COUNTRY IN WORLD WAR II AS WELL AS THOSE WHO DIED IN PRISONS OF THE COMMUNIST REGIME IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA."
    TEN MINUTES BEFORE THE ARRIVAL OF THE OFFICIAL PARTY, POLICE CARRIED THE WREATH BEHIND A PINE TREE ON THE EDGE OF THE ENCLOSURE. TWO MINUTES AFTER THE CEREMONY ENDED, THE WREATH WAS PUT BACK AT THE FOOT OF THE MEMORIAL.

    WITH MR. TRHLIK AT THE CEREMONY, TO MARK THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEFEAT OF NAZI GERMANY AND THE LIBERATION OF CZECHOSLOVAKIA, WAS MRS. KARASOVA, MAYOR OF THE VILLAGE OF LIDICE, AND MR. M. GALUSKA, THE FORMER CZECHOSLOVAK AMBASSADOR TO BRITAIN.
