  • Description

The American Guided Missiles cruiser 'Canberra' attracted large numbers of visitors when she paid a courtesy call to Istanbul.

Guests showed particular interest in the twin 'Terriers' missiles and the manoeuvrability of their launching equipment. Turkish naval officers as well as the general public were on board the Canberra, inspecting the latest equipment --and traditional emblems and shields.

There would appear, at first glance, to be little in common between the ancient city of Istanbul (See Constantinople) and the modern warship. But a clever camera shot shows the similarity between the twin towers of the Dolmabahque Mosque and the Terrier missiles.
