  • Description

Sophisticated peasant wear was the rule at this season's show of ready to wear clothes in Florence, Italy, on Monday (13 October).

The outfits were designed by Western Europe's leading designers.

The gowns displayed were aimed at women in their late twenties and early thirties, who the designers reckon have the most spending potential.

Yesterday's blue denim set has apparently grown up to the current yearning for nostalgia.....a return to long, flowing, light designs that set out to capture the spirit of today's young women.

Dresses are invariably below the knee in length.....a sad blow for some men. But in the place of legs the designers have emphasised the bust line.....full and flowing.

Pants are again in fashion according to western european designers but next year they will be more akin to flowing ball gowns that tight jeans. The new fashion pants fall from the bust in long flowing lines and billow out in light clouds when the wearer dares to walk to turn.

One big disadvantage for the followers of next year's ready to wear fashion will be the lightness and therefore transparency of next season's fashion. For most of the designers....not to mention the models.....of the new fashions have decided to do away with lingerie.

Many of the mannequins sleeked down the catwalk in Florence in the new flighty, light see-through outfits....and nothing else.

Florence, Italy, and the first chance to view what women will be wearing next season. The fashion houses that exhibited their designs at the Florentine ready-to wear-show continued with the trend towards an limitation of high fashion.

Most of the outfits showed that next season's women will have to be firm busted and long legged. The House of Antonelli gave a glimpse of what the poor disregarded male used to cherish in the early sixties....legs. Most of the designers at this year's show relied on variations on the old peasant look....with a smooth line from the bust to the ankle.

Dresses will invariably be below the knee. But in the place of legs the designers have emphasised the bust line....full, free and flowing. The designs are aimed at the new age bracket with the most spending potential....women in their late twenties and early thirties.

Yesterday's blue denim set has apparently grown up to the current yearning for nostalgia....and designers seem to realise that they still have the money spend on the new fashions that they once splashed on jeans and jackets.

Pants are again in fashion....but next year they will be more akin to flowing ball gowns than tight jeans. The new fashion pants fall from the bust and bellow out in light clouds to the ankle. So the message from the world's leading designers is clear. The thin waif like figures of the sixties will have to expand to full busted thin waisted figures with rounded "derrieres," to get the best from the mid seventies.
