    A NIGERIAN INSPECTOR TODAY BECAME THE FIRST POLICEMAN FROM HIS COUNTRY TO WIN THE COVETED BATON OF HONOUR AWARD IN THE OVERSEAS POLICE COURSE AT HENDON POLICE COLLEGE NEAR LONDON. INSPECTOR ADEBOWALE KAFIDIPE SHARED THE FIRST-PLACE PRIZE WITH A COLLEAGUE FROM HONG KONG, INSPECTOR LEUNG FUNG-SHUN.

    THE TWO INSPECTORS RECEIVED THEIR AWARDS FROM THE DEPUTY OVERSEAS POLICE ADVISOR, MR. L. HICKS, AT TODAY'S PASSING OUT PARADE. CERTIFICATES OF COMMENDATION WENT TO ANOTHER HONG KONG OFFICER. INSPECTOR FUNG KING CHENG AND INSPECTOR LABAN ALEXANDER HUGHES OF ANTIGUA.

    ALTOGETHER 25 POLICE OFFICERS FROM 11 COUNTRIES ATTENDED THE 20-WEEK COURSE. OTHER COUNTRIES REPRESENTED WERE GHANA, LESOTHO, MALAWI, ST. LUCIA, ANTIGUA, THE GILBERT AND ELLICE ISLANDS, THE SOLOMON ISLANDS, TONGA AND FIJI. THE COURSE WAS THE 44TH IN A SERIES OF SCHEMES THAT BEGAN IN 1950.

    DURING HIS REVIEW OF THE PARADE, MR HICKS SPOKE TO TWO OF THE POLICEMEN, INSPECTOR JOSEPH TEAGUE AND ANTIGUA AND INSPECTOR R.S. MATELA OF LESOTHO, BEFORE HE PRESENTED THE PRIZES.
