    MAURITANIA WAS AMONG THE COUNTRIES WHICH CELEBRATED AFRICA DAY - THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE SIGNING IN 1963 OF THE CHARTER OF THE ORGANISATION OF AFRICAN UNITY. GOVERNMENT LEADERS ATTENDED THE CELEBRATIONS, WHICH WERE HELD IN THE CAPITAL, NOUAKCHOTT.

    AMONG THOSE PRESENT WERE THE PRESIDENT OF MAURITANIA, MOKTAR OULD DADDAH, AND HIS WIFE, THEY WERE GREETED BY A GAY, DANCING, CLAPPING CROWD, AND CHEERFUL FOLK MUSIC.

    THE CELEBRATIONS - ON MAY 25 -- WERE ECHOED IN LONDON WITH A GATHERING OF THE HEADS OF AFRICAN DIPLOMATIC MISSIONS AT THE OFFICE OF THE KENYA HIGH COMMISSIONER, DR. J.N. KARANJA.
