  • Description

King Hussein said today that the federation of Jordan and Iraq was a mere step toward a goal, a stone laid in building the future an honourable means to ideal ends, and a starting point for a forthcoming Arab awakening which will restore full Arab rights in Palestine.

He was speaking at a three-hour Army Day parade at Zerka, north of Amman.

Shortly before the parade King Hussein and King Feisal, accompanied by the crown princess, arrived and were received by members of the Federal and Jordanian Cabinets and the chiefs of staff of the Jordanian and Iraqui armies.

Driving in an open car, the two Kings visited army units and then back their place on a special dais. The Iraqi and Jordanian national antheme were played. Units then passed before the dais where the Royal visitors took the salute. Jordanian and Iraqi aircraft flew overhead in formation.

About 50,000 people attended the parade, including Arab and foreign diplomats, military missions representing Arab, Moslem, and other countries.
