  • Description

Hungary's biggest oil supplier outside the Eastern bloc,Iraq, has sent an important delegate to Budapest.

Mr. Saddam Hussein, the Deputy Chairman of Iraq's ruling Revolutionary Command Council arrived in the Hungarian capital on Wednesday (7 May) for a brief visit.

Earlier this year an English newspaper reported that Hungary may buy increased supplies of oil from Kuwait, following an announcement that Kuwait will finance a third of the cost of the Adria pipeline which will bring Middle East oil from Yugoslavia to Hungary and Czechoslovakia.

At present, Hungary imports from Iraq nearly all the oil she buys from sources other than her Eastern bloc suppliers.

On arrival in Budapest, Mr. Hussein was grated by the Hungarian Prime Minister, Jeno Fock, and a guard of honour.

During the visit, Government sources said there were no political or economical problems burdening relations between Iraq and Hungary.
