With goats and mules the repatriates crowded the border post for two days while Greek officials went through the formalities required for the crossing. Greek Red Cross and Ministry of Welfare representatives received 237 civilians and 8 soldiers.

There were 22 boys aged from one to 10 years and 28 girls under 10. Most of the children were born during their parent's captivity.

These hostages were the first to arrive this year. From 1959 until last December 322 prisoners of war and more than 100 International Red Cross and by European nations represented diplomatically at Tirana.

Greek officials say other groups of prisoners are expected to be released this year. It is believed in Athens that apart from the hostages and prisoners about 10,000 Greek Communists fled to Albania when they were driven out of the country by the national forces in 1949.

Many have been transferred to other countries behind the Iron Curtain by the Greek Communist leaders. some have been sent away as far as Tashkent in the Soviet Republic of Uzbekistan.
