SYNOPSIS: Soon after his arrival in the Italian capital, King Hussein was received by President Sandro Pertini. during his visit to France (12 December), the King, speaking to reporters had reiterated his opposition to the Israeli-Egyptian Camp David agreements and he also discussed the peace settlement with the Italian president. King Hussein explained to Signor Pertini the Jordanian position at last month's Baghdad conference or the so-called "hard-line" states, which had condemned the Camp David accords. King hussein believes there can only be a lasting peace in The Middle East if Israel withdraws from all territories it has occupied since The 1967 war. Another important topic discussed by the two heads of state was the unrest in Iran. King Hussein, it has been reported, was to act as a mediator between the Shah of Iran and exiled religious leader Ayatollah Khomeiny. But King Hussein has denied that he met the Ayatollah in Paris recently.
