    With the news cameras of the world recording their every movement and word, Muhammad Ali, the world heavyweight boxing champion, and his challenger for that title, Joe Bugner of Britain, turned on a classic display of pre-fight histrionics when they weighed-in for their fight in Kuala Lumpur to be held on Tuesday (1 July). The weigh-in at the stadium where the two men will face each other was in keeping with the now-to-be-expected verbal sparring that marks these ceremonies.

    Bugner weighed 230 pounds (104.3 kilos) ... four pounds heavier than expected. Ali lost no time suggesting his challenger now faced problems putting on excess weight between now and fight time.

    Ali weighed in five pounds (2.3 kilos) lighter. Bugner declared Ali was overtrained.

    Then the two men made light-hearted attempts to swing punches at each other. Luckily, or by design, their handlers were in the right place at the right time to keep them apart.

    Both men departed smiling.

    In Kuala Lumpur, the great day is approaching. On Tuesday, Joe Bugner, the British ???, challenges Muhammad Ali for his world heavyweight boxing title. The fight will and several weeks of verbal sparring between the two men which came to a head with a classic display of his bionics when they weighed-in on saturday. Bugner was the first to go onto the scales.

    The British challenger weighed 230 pounds ... four pounds heavier than expected. Ali, who entered the stadium soon after, suggested Bugner would have trouble staying at that weight until fight time.

    When ali mounted the platform to weigh-in, the two men indulged in the by-play which has become a regular part of such ceremonies.

    Ali weighed in at 225 pounds ... five pounds less than Bugner.

    Before the two men departed they began the fight three days early ... but luckily their handlers were in the right place at the right time to prevent any bloodshed.
