TRANSCRIPT: U THANT SPEAKS (SEQ. 3): "Hammarskjoeld had set an extraordinary standard of dedication, diplomatic skill, intellect, energy and courage. He it was eight years who developed often in novel ways the potential of the United Nations, for keeping the peace. He had developed multilateral diplomacy which had not been tried before. He was a tireless champion of the principles of the Charter, and an indefatigable seeker after his objectives. He had set the stamp of his powerful and unusual personality on much of the activity of the organisation, and had gained for it, by his actions as well as by his words, the respect and involvement of millions of people all over the world."
