Background: Kenyan housewife Daphne Hardley keeps pets - dozens of them. She rears and sells them, just like people who breed pedigree dogs and cats --except her pets are jungle beasts. Mrs. Hardley's animal pair range from "Clarissa" a full-grown cheetah, to a pair of elephants -- "Winston" and "Wilma" -- and "Turk", a rare white rhinoceros valued at GBP5,000. Other members of the jungle zoo include several ostriches, reared for their plumage, and a pride of lions.

Most of the pets, partly tame and often hand-fed, roam freely on a vast estate that Mrs. Hardley and her husband, game-hunter Carr Hardley, own at Nyeri in the White Highlands of Kenya.
