  • Description

On the last day of his six-day tour of the French Provinces, Russian Premier Nikita Khrushchev and wife Nina, paid a short visit to a textile factory at Lille, March 30, before boarding a special train for Rouen, the last city on his tour.

A short stop at Serqueux gave the Russian leader a chance to step down from his special train and refresh himself with a glass of Calvados. He talked for some time with the waitress in the station buffet who brought him the drink.

Back on the train Premier Khrushchev mentioned several points that Communism had in common with Christianity. He said "On many points we are in agreement with Christ. A lot of his teaching resembles communism. If I were Christ I would chase the money-changers out of the temple".

When he arrived in Rouen the Russian Prime Minister visited the famous cathedral, but he was content to walk round the outside without entering. Throughout his tour the Catholic clergy have remained aloof from any welcome accorded to the Soviet Premier.

His tour over Premier Khrushchev returned to Paris March 31, to resume his series of talks with President de Gaulle at Rambouillet Chateau, outside Paris. He will return to Moscow April 3.
