  • Description

All along Thailand's North-East border, fear has been mounting of Communist infiltration from Cambodia - and troops have been converging on the area in platoons of 50 to take up positions of defence. One such group, commanded by Lieutenant Amorn Sarapat, arrived at the Ban Tan border point on Monday, July 6.

The Border Patrols are on 24-hour alerts throughout the area since reports of Vietcong build-ups on the Cambodian side - including a massive one which is said to be forming in the Cheom Ksan district, and police sources have reported some 2,000 Vietcong entrenched in readiness for a major attack.

In a nation-wide radio broadcast, Prime Minister Field Marshal Thanom Kittikachorn, warned of a possible invasion of Thailand from Cambodia and the troops were rushed to reinforce the police border units that have been maintaining security in the area for several weeks.

To date, no confrontations have taken place - but the Thai Army and authorities are not taking any chances of being caught unprepared in the event that the reports from Cambodia on troops build???up proved correct.
